VinFast’s latest electric vehicle, the VF3, is set to hit the US market, offering an affordable and distinctive option. Debuting at CES 2024, the VF3 follows the underwhelming VF8, which entered the competitive market segment last year. Unlike its predecessor, the VF3 boasts a unique and blocky design, reminiscent of a shrunken Toyota FJ Cruiser or a futuristic Suzuki Jimny.
Measuring a compact 125.6 inches in length, 66.1 inches in width, and 63.8 inches in height, the VF3 addresses the demand for smaller vehicles. While the VF8 faced tough competition, the VF3 stands out with its character and practicality. Despite its small size, it accommodates four passengers, with foldable rear seats providing a cargo capacity of up to 19.4 cubic feet.
Equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the VF3 combines functionality with connectivity. However, its compact size comes with a trade-off—the range is around 125 miles on a full charge, suitable for urban commuting rather than long-distance travel.
What sets the VF3 apart is its affordability. Priced at $12,200 in Vietnam, there’s anticipation for a US version with a sub-$20,000 price tag. This would offer a compelling alternative in a market where the average sales price for new EVs exceeds $50,000. VinFast plans to open reservations for the VF3 later this year, aiming to capture attention with its unique design and budget-friendly approach to electric vehicles.
